Career Coach ? Settlement At Work

Brampton Multicultural Community Centre (BMC) requires a Career Coach.

Brampton Multicultural Community Centre is a charity established in Peel Region in 1987 with the mandate to help and support the most vulnerable, dis-advantaged and newcomer/immigrants individuals and families within our community. Our programs and services are designed to provide information, resources available, skills development and help in their settlement process. Your job as a Career Coach will be to contribute towards programs and services which equip clients for successful living, lifelong learning, and work in a global knowledge-based environment. We are looking for a passionate, patient and enthusiastic career coach to assist our clients in transitioning into the Canadian labour market.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop/follow instructional plans based on program guidelines and adapt delivery methods to meet participant?s needs
  • Prepare and deliver job related skills workshops that facilitate newcomer participants to compete in local labour market using a variety of teaching and learning methods
  • Facilitate monthly workshops on Job Search Techniques including resume, interview techniques and other job search related activities
  • Critique client resume/cover letters accurately and suggest current trends
  • Create and develop workshop materials
  • Provide support 1:1 or in group setting
  • Identify, outreach, orient and recruit appropriate program participants
  • Maintain regular contact with program participants
  • Provide on-going support and develop mentoring relationships
  • Assist clients to set employment goals in the short and long term
  • Provide clients with the necessary tools needed to achieve their goals
  • Work in conjunction with other Employment Related Services staff to create an action plan for clients
  • Work in collaboration with other Settlement Workers to ensure thorough assessment, support, and follow-up is provided
  • Stay up to date with changing trends in the labour market, familiarize yourself with different industries requirements
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, yearly written report(s) or as required
  • Any other responsibility prescribed by the Board or designate
  • Reports to Executive Director or his/her designate(s)

Qualifications:

  • University Graduate or Diploma in Human Services profession and/or a Certificate in Career Development
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated work experience in career development and employment training
  • Prior experience working with a range of diverse job seekers experiencing barriers to employment; a proven track record to achieve employment targets and outcomes is a must
  • Knowledge of employment search techniques through Internet, career information, resume, interview techniques and labour market trends
  • Ability to facilitate employment related workshops in a positive and dynamic manner
  • Ability to counsel clients in a supportive, solution-focused manner
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Sound team player, with the ability to collaborate and share ideas
  • Flexible, self-motivated, able to work independently, and be able to maintain good relations with clients and co-workers
  • Knowledge of labour market issues and trends as they relate to the geographic, demographic and economic aspects of Peel, Halton and GTA
  • Capability to handle multiple priorities with ease and professionalism; able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication (oral and written), and computer skills (Windows, MS Office, and Internet)
  • Fluent in English reading and writing. Second language is a definite asset
  • Flexible to work evenings and Saturdays on a regular rotation basis
  • Able to work in any office location within the Peel Region
  • Must own vehicle and a valid driver license, and liability insurance that covers your vehicle to be used for job related travelling as and when needed

This is a full-time contract position until March 31, 2013.
